Around 1925 the Spaniards resided in Al Hoceima and you can still see their influences. There are houses and schools in Spanish style and there is even a Catholic church. Some street names are in Spanish and also the name of the city of Al Hoceima has a Spanish influence. Al Hoceima descended namely from the Spanish word ‘Alhucemas’ which means ‘lavender’.
Morocco got the regime back of Al Hoceima around 1950. As the economic conditions where very bad during a couple of years, all the houses where painted blue/white. When the city began to economically develop, the house where painted in bright colors. Since 2007 all houses have been painted back in the original colors of the city; blue and white.
Climate Al Hoceima
Al Hoeceima is the perfect city to visit the whole year. However, the period from May till October is the most perfect. During these months the temperature is pleasant to warm and there is no or little chance of rain.
